Nia further explained to The HollyWood Reporter that Thursday’s honor rendered her “speechless”. Adding, “I’m emotional, but that’s good. That means this means something, and that we’re doing something as a community and as a culture…moments like this, days like this, are reminders that I have to celebrate myself and acknowledge that. When you stop and go: my purpose here has made an impact on a generation of women, that’s important.”

When not gracing our screens as Hollywood’s leading lady, Nia is busy being a mom to her two boys. Last year on Mother’s Day, Long wrote a touching tribute on Instagram about her boys.

To her first-born Massai, she wrote, “My #1. His birth was easy and quick. He changed my life….now I’m Mommy. I love you @massaidorsey. Happy Mother’s Day to all the women who plan, replan, organize, cook, clean, teach, cry when it feels overwhelming, laugh as you watch the magic you created and who live selflessly because we understand our purpose. Praise God and my ancestors for allowing me this privilege.”

To son Kez, she said, “My #2. Thank you for slowing me down. Your birth was long and difficult. I asked you why….you said you felt safe and warm and didn’t want to leave my womb. Bless the women who have become mothers by any means necessary. HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY.”
